How it works

Five steps. Roughly a weekend.

A quick guide from blank instrument to finished object. Substitute judgment where required.

01

Get your uke

Your Butterfly Uke arrives fully assembled and unfinished. You may immediately play three chords and declare yourself a musician.

02

Make a plan

Sketch your idea, gather materials, and decide whether you're making something tasteful or magnificent.

03

Decorate it

Paint, stain, wood-burning tools, markers, collage, carving, stencils, transfers, mixed media. Test your materials first. Especially the weird ones.

04

Add a protective finish

Depending on your design, seal the surface with oil, wax, shellac, lacquer, polyurethane, or another compatible finish. Follow the product instructions and let it cure.

05

Play, display, gift, or sell

Your finished Butterfly Uke can be a musical instrument, artwork, gift, collectible, or product you sell. Preferably all five.
